WFMW: Family Meetings

I am new to this whole WFMW (Works For Me Wednesday) posting. But, I had to share one of our new norms -- Weekly Family Meetings. They are AWESOME!

Each Sunday we sit down, sometimes as a family and other times just Nick and I (if the girls are napping) and we discuss family stuff. We look at our budget and envelopes (if you know Dave Ramsey, you know what I am talking about). We look at our schedules and plan meals for the week. We read over our family vision (which is still a work in progress). It is AWESOME! It really helps us to have a focus for the week and know what is going on and not feel like we are running around like crazy people.

Does your family do any kind of family meeting? I would love to know what works for you! Find other ideas and tips by clicking on the button below. Happy Wednesday!

Fantastic! I love this idea. Lincoln and I have daily meetings. The first 10 minutes that we are home together in the evening are OUR time. We close the bedroom door and catch up on the day, update each other on new happenings, talk over the plan for the next day, etc. I would like to do a family meeting with the kids once a week though...great idea!!!

I'd love to hear more about your family vision statement! Do you think a vision statement is different than a mission statement?

We have little meetings, and I prefer to have them scheduled like this so we don't get blindsided and can have free time be free time. For example, last night Dan said we should probably review our budget for Sept, talk about how our money was spent in August, discuss when we want to travel to see family, etc. For him, he needs to think of these things for a bit rather than spring them up instantly.

Our family vision has many different categories...
Mission Statement
Guiding Principles (What we believe)
Relationships & how they support Mission Statement
Health
Finances
Where we live & how it supports Mission Statement
Other things to enrich lives
Careers/Retirement

We just started this about 3 weeks or so ago...so we are still figuring out how it all works and revising our ideas. It helps to have a list of what you believe and what you see as important to your family. Then when a big decision comes up, it is easier to look at your family vision and see if it fits in or not.

Ash - I think I might see if Nick will do the 10 minutes when he first gets home thing. I think that would help him transition into home mode easier! Great idea!

Britt, I would love to sit down with you and see your family Mission Statement and get an outline to create our own. It's one of my 29 by 29 goals, and I'm struggling with how to start it.
